Working toward a healthy and scenic Rappahannock River
Friends of the Rappahannock
We work to ensure a Rappahannock River that is clean for drinking water, safe for fish consumption and recreation, diverse with grasses and wildlife, and a treasured resource. Over the past 30 years, we have engaged over 60,000 children in hands-on environmental education. We spearheaded the removal of the Embrey Dam, restoring over 600 miles of habitat for migratory birds and fish. We led the advocacy for the preservation of 4,232 acres of river front, ensuring that 30 miles are permanently protected river landscape. With your support, we can continue to change the lives of students and citizens of the watershed by engaging the entire Rappahannock River community in water quality protection programs, ensuring we have a watershed where land use and run-off is managed. Our desire is to create a community where citizens and local governments are educated stewards of our river resource, taking action in our own backyards.
