Culpeper Winter Heat Shelter
Providing a place to sleep for those in need
Culpeper Winter Heat Shelter
The Shelter is a collaborative effort of about 20 area Churches, with the support of hundreds of volunteers, and an assortment of local businesses and organizations. During the 2015/16 winter season, the shelter provided over 2700 bed nights and over 6000 meals, serving an average nightly attendance of 22 people.
Volunteers to chaperone (overnight) and to serve meals are always needed and welcome. Donations of certain food items are also welcome, and of course monetary donations are not only welcome but essential to keeping the shelter operating. For some of those served by the Shelter, it is a stepping stone, allowing them time and opportunity to find employment and to gain housing. For others, it is a respite from the cold weather and living on the streets. Our goal is to not only keep them warm and well fed during the cold months, but to help them connect to other services and resources so that they are better off when they depart than they were when they arrived.
